It's not unusual
but when I see you hanging about with anyone
With how long he was going to be gone, Ella found it incumbent upon herself to give him something to remember her by. Sure, it was ridiculous what with Skype and a million other ways for them to communicate throughout his tour, but the little panda plushie in her hand was hopefully going to be the constant reminder for him of what he would be coming back to. Things with Ben hadn't been great ever since the fight about going on tour and even though she did exactly what Ben wanted, Ella saw less and less of Ben. She was starting to regret not going with Haden but she sure as hell wasn't going to tell either of them about it. The drive up to the airport was filled with mindless chatter, mostly about what he was going to do and what she asked him to do for pictures at certain places but she had decided to give the stuffed animal to Haden just as they were going to separate so he wouldn't have time to push it away. They were already at the gate when she took it out and shoved it in his hands, hugging him tight and moving away as she fought back tears seeing him with his carry on bag and the stuffed animal in his hand. "Live our lives for me, Sinatra." She said, her voice breaking a little.

Take Me Home
I'm only happy when I'm with you
Haden hadn't slept. He was sick to his stomach just thinking about being gone for months. It was the twenty first century with thousands of ways to get ahold of someone across the world, but even so, it wasn't going to be easy. His home was where Ella was and he'd never been away from her for so long before. Least of all over the holidays.
The car ride had been exactly what he expected it to be. Ella chattering away and him attempting to maintain the enthusiasm that she had. He couldn't be as excited as he would have if she was coming too, and while he had that thought weighing down on him, he also couldn't let his mood weigh her down anymore than he figured she was. Ella never showed it, but he knew.
At the gate, he had his hands awkwardly fidgeting in front of him, not sure how to kill the time. He wanted it to last for much longer than it was going to and he wanted to reach out to her, but something was holding him back. When she shoved the plush panda into his hands, he didn't have any time to look at it before she hugged him. His stomach clenched uncomfortably with the anxiety of being apart and he hugged her back. By this point, he just felt numb. She pulled back first and he reached up to brush his fingers across her cheek, "I..." He wanted to say so much, but he couldn't find the right words. "I'm gonna miss you, Ells. I'll call whenever I can and...I love you a lot ya know."
Home for me is where you are.

Ella closed her eyes as she leaned into his touch, wanting so badly to just follow him anyway. A part of her just wanted to say to hell with Ben and just follow Haden on tour. But she couldn't do that to Haden. Or to Ben. Things are always going to be complicated.
"I love you, Haden. And I'll miss you too. So much." She smiled and tears finally fell. Ella brushed them away and hugged him one more time. "I love you." She whispered as she squeezed him one more time before letting him go. "I expect postcards and Facetime and Instagram tags. Okay? You're going to be amazing." She nodded.
She let him go through the gate and waited until she could no longer see him before properly breaking down. She went back to her car and the whole drive back was filled with tears. She tried calling Ben to see if he could come home for a bit so they could talk. She just wanted someone to hold her. But he didn't answer his phone so she just went home expecting an empty apartment only to find Ben with another woman in their bed.
